About
Welcome
I’ve always loved classical music, and I continue to love discovering new classical music all the time. So I decided to proverbially “return the favor” and share with people my favorite classical music selections. For some people this website will be a very light “Introduction to Classical Music”, while others may browse simple to experience new music.
Concept
The idea at ClassicalWeekly.com is simple. Each week I will post a new a work of classical music for you to listen to (and hopefully see). Each posting will have the title, composer, genre and a YouTube recording of the work (when available). I will usually make a few comments about the work at the start of the post and I will include a wikipedia (or other) link for you to learn more about the work if you wish to do so.
YouTube Limitations and My Favorite Recordings
While there are some great videos on YouTube, there are literally thousands of recordings out there and many of them are significantly better than what you will find at YouTube from a performance and quality perspective. So at the bottom of each post I will also place my Amazon Affiliate link to my favorite recording(s) of the work. Feel free to review the comments that others have made on Amazon.com and try to listen to the Amazon’s mp3 samples (when available ) to give you a feel for the specific recording.
Get the CD, not the MP3
I strongly recommend that if you do purchase a copy of the work, do not purchase the mp3 version. While it may seem convenient at first, most mp3 versions are not at CD quality (iTunes has the same problem) and some recordings are actually missing tracks in the mp3 version. Do yourself a favor and purchase the CD. You can always easily convert the CD to mp3 format and still have the high-quality CD original around any time you need it.
Feedback
I encourage your feedback and suggestions so feel free to head to the contact page and let me know what’s on your mind. If you have a recording that you think is better than the one I suggested, PLEASE let me know. Like many of you out there, I own many different versions of many different works, each of which I like for a different reason, so I’m always excited to hear another version of a work I already like. And if you think there is a work that should be featured on the site, please let me know and I”ll do my best to work it in.
Thanks for visiting classicalweekly.com. I hope you enjoy using the site as much as I enjoy maintaining it.
