Haydn: Trumpet Concerto – Third Movement – Finale-Allegro (Rondo)

Comment: My son refers to it as “The Haydn Concerto” and I must concede, Haydn’s Trumpet Concerto in E flat major needs no other label. A fun and light work, the Trumpet Concerto’s is a brilliant work that only begins to demonstrate Haydn’s mastery of music. The primary YouTube video stars master trumpet player,  Wynton Marsalis, but for those of you who want an even faster version, I’ve included a second video (no visual orchestra, unfortunately) for you to hear.  The recommended recording includes “The Haydn Concerto”, as well as  Hummel’s Trumpet Concerto in E flat major (a work in and of itself).  Lastly, the disc also has Leopold Mozart’s (W.A. Mozart’s father) excellent Concerto in D Major for Trumpet and Orchestra.
