Wagner: Götterdämmerung – Immolation Scene/Finale
Comment: The music mixes solemness and majesty as Wagner’s epic Ring Cycle concludes with the Finale of Götterdämmerung, the fourth opera in the Ring Cycle. People can argue for lifetimes about which Ring Cycle is the “best” one and which are better than others — so for the time being we’ll skip the debate and watch the truly great soprano Gwnyeth Jones as Brünnhilde in the 1976 Cherau/Boulzez centennial ring.
